

Folkloric garments are important because they represent the cultural identity of the wearers and because other garments cannot substitute for their functionality. Folkloric costumes vary depending on the cultural or geographic region, the materials available for their construction, and the traditional style of life they convey. (1)
The lower image is of women doing a national folk dance originating in Jalisco Mexico. The female costume is based on turn-of-the-century fashions as interpreted by common people. (2)
The image at the top is of two Ecuadorian women. The Ecuadorians have a specific type of dress code, combining all different kinds of cultural diversities, found in the regions of Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. (3) Dress usually includes a poncho or shawl, a fedora or felt hat, and calf-length knickers or skirt.
